The desiccant tray is for the removal of excessive moisture from the crown board area of a bee hive during winter. The tray is designed to allow for desiccant bags or loose desiccant silicone beads. The tray is designed to prevent the bee tongues getting near the desiccant, the tray is safe for honey bees !
During the winter it is recommended to install an Eke and Perspex window on top of the crown board, you can then inspect the bees and add fondant feed where necessary, With the desiccant tray you can use this to safely remove moisture from this area of the hive without having to open the hive and release any important heat.
If you see lots of condensation on the Perspex window then I highly recommend the desiccant tray to reduce the dangerous moisture levels within a hive
Each desiccant tray dimensions prevent bees being able to get access to the desiccant, and each tray comes with 20grams of silicone desiccant, each unit contains a desiccant tray, and cover.
