The cage allows you to catch a queen bee, then you can safely inspect your hive without worrying about her getting damaged, nurse bees can still enter and exit the cage as the holes will allow for this, hence keeping the queen calm.
The Cage is extremely important when removing queen cells and swarm control, also can be used to help when marking a queen, by having the queen in the cage you know that she is safe while you are inspecting the remainder of the hive, she also has plenty of space so no need to worry about her once she is in the cage.
How to use: simply put in front of the queen and allow her to enter, carefully close the box and place on top of you brood frames while inspecting the frames, once done , open the cage and carefully watch her exit back into the colony
